Strategic Development Plan

Despite the fact that the Christian Brothers College Secondary School building has been a feature of the Cork skyline for over a quarter of a century, it is still occasionally referred to as ‘the new school’. This term came into use in the 1980s, to distinguish the Sidney Hill complex from the older building on Wellington Road which had been opened by the Christian Brothers in 1888. The incoming Board of Management, recognising that the ‘new school’ is no longer new, has determined that during its period of office: October 2014 to October 2017, a major refurbishment of the CBC Campus will be carried out. The scope of the work will include the Preparatory School, the Secondary School, the grounds at Sidney Hill, and the sports pavilion and grounds at Lansdowne. The Board’s objective is to bring all College facilities up to a level which will provide the best educational facilities for CBC pupils for the next 25 years.

The College has started the process of consulting with school architects, building surveyors and experts in areas such as recycling, sustainability and ICT. However, the Board recognises the crucial role to be played by the whole CBC community. Consequently, the teachers and other member of staff, the pupils, parents, Past Pupils Union and Trustees are all invited to get involved in the work during the planning stage.
